Three reasons why website traffic matters for your cake business.
It’s no secret that I’m a big supporter of cake businesses setting up their own website. It’s your online bakery front, a way for potential customers to find you, a place for potential customers to get to know you. Most importantly, it then becomes a place for them to place an order, through your contact form.
A simple website can fulfil all of these things – you don’t need an all-singing, all-dancing set up. Using WordPress and a pre-made theme when you first get started, you can have a website in hoirs. That’s right, your very own website set up from scratch in a matter of hours, and with no tech or coding required!
Today, I’m going to talk to you about three reasons why website traffic matters for your cake business. And it’s not just about finding more customers (although that’s a big part!). It’s also about giving you the opportunity to diversify your income streams. These are things you can earn money from relating to cake but not actually making a cake. Let’s get started!
More website traffic = more potential customers looking at YOUR cakes.
The more people who visit your website, the more potential customers you have. They’re ready and waiting to be persuaded by your awesome website content to buy one of your cakes, and not someone else’s.
The chances are that the visitor didn’t stumble upon your website by chance. They were looking for cake and possibly for you in particular. Now they’re on your website, your opportunity arrives to convince them of your cake making greatness through a cake gallery or portfolio, testimonials and your about page.
The more people who visit your site, the more people you can convince to buy from you. That all adds up to more customers and cake orders for you to potentially get. This is the most obvious and direct way that website traffic matters for your cake business.
More website traffic = the possibility of running adverts on your website.
Again, this does not need to require any tech knowledge depending on who you use to put adverts on your website. Most advert networks have minimum page views or website visitor requirements for you to sign up. By growing the number of people visiting your website, you can open up the opportunity to earn money from hosting adverts.
This doesn’t usually pay that highly anymore, but it can be a nice income top-up. As so many websites are keen to host adverts, the supply exceeds demand, pushing payment prices down. Even better, growing your traffic means more potential customers viewing your website (and adverts, earning you extra income without you needing to do anything you wouldn’t already be doing), so it can bring you in more cake orders at the same time.
More website traffic = the chance to work with baking brands.
Having multiple sources of income, for example through cakes, adverts on your cake website, or working with brands gives you more income security. If one source of money falls down a little one month, , you can at least supplement the income you were expecting through your other income streams.
Pitch baking brands (think ingredients, equipment, recipe book publishers, aprons and servingware etc). Let them know that you would be happy to accept a sponsored post from them. Once you’ve grown strong website traffic, tell them your website statistics. You could include how many visitors you get each month, how many page views and what countries they are from, and offer them a sponsored post, a recipe using their ingredients or equipment or a product review.
If you’ve got the right audience for them and the right price for the privilege of being featured on your cake website, you can earn money. Creating paid-for content on your website for relevant baking brands offers an extra income stream.
